AAOA: Hi Ekaterina, you're an artist, right? Why are you interested in discussing such tricky topics? I mean, interspecies relationships, isn't it very complex and difficult to tackle?
EL: Well, yes and no.

EL: I'm afraid, we need a couple of hours more, just to scratch the surface. Slightly. Let me explain.
The question of how the relation between human being and animal can be apprehended and where to distinguish them from one another has turned into an ongoing question since my early artistic and philosophical work and studies.
In my work a romantic and playful perspective on the relation between human being and the animal as opponent is salient.
Thus, part of my work shows metamorphosis, blurred lines of the human and animal realm and illustrates the human as a being longing for reconnection with a forgotten nature and, moreover, thematises an anthropocentric view of the animal.
The animal has turned into the human being’s medium. At the same time the human experience has become estranged from its roots and has become lost in the third digital nature.
This loneliness, represented in single portraits, is essential in the pictorial world of my paintings. Inspirational sources for my creative work are found in literature, classical psychology and philosophy, which form a critical fundament in my work, and encourage scrutinizing reflections.

EL: Die Frage nach der Beziehung und Grenzziehung zwischen Mensch und Tier beschäftigt mich seit meinem Studium sowohl in meiner künstlerischen Praxis als auch in meiner philosophischen Auseinandersetzung.
In meinen Arbeiten steht vordergründig eine romantisch-verspielte Sicht auf die Beziehung des Menschen zu seinem tierischen Gegenüber. So zeigt ein Teil meiner Arbeiten die Metamorphose, ein Verschwimmen der Grenze zwischen Mensch und Tier, andere veranschaulichen die Sehnsucht des Menschen nach der Verbindung zur Natur und thematisieren seine anthropozentrische Perspektive auf das Tier. Das Tier wird zum Medium des Menschen, welcher sich von seiner ersten Natur entfremdet hat und sich heute in der dritten digitalen Natur verliert. Seine Einsamkeit zeigt sich in meinen Bildwelten durch das Einzelporträt.
Inspirationsquellen für mein Schaffen finde ich in der Literatur, klassischen Psychologie und Philosophie, die eine kritische Grundlage für meine Werke bilden und mich immer wieder zur prüfenden Reflektion anregen.
