about Ekaterina Leo:
Influenced by the studies of philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, an examination of, inter alia, Peter Singer’s (*1946) and John Rawls‘s (1921-2002) bioethics as well as personal intellectual ideas have culminated into an artistic approach that deals with the topic of human being/ animal. Ekaterina Leo realised her first conceptual sketches as a master student (Meisterschüler) of Prof. Anne Berning at the Art Academy in Mainz, Germany (Kunsthochschule) were she intensified her artistic focus on the concept of metamorphosis of human being and animal. During her scholarship at the Opelvillen foundation (LABOR der Stiftung Opelvillen) in Rüsselsheim, Germany, Leo revived the topic of human being and animal relations once again and presented her artistic results in the solo exhibition Freiflug (free flight) in 2016.
The artist, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, has presented her subtle and critical approach to the complex game of the human culture being and the animal as a being of nature in exhibitions and art fairs in, inter alia, Frankfurt a.M., Cologne, Wiesbaden, Germany, and Miami, USA.
Ekaterina Leo works as an independent artist in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.
