Benjamin Roers is a research assistant at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) and a doctoral student of history at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Prior to this, he studied history and philosophy at the University of Hamburg, where he worked as a student assistant in the field of Public History. Benjamins research interests are in Animal History/Human-Animal Studies, Public History, Methods and theories of historical science as well as Gender Studies. In his dissertation project he is dealing with Human-animal relationships in 20th century circus. He wrote his bachelor’s thesis on Schopenhauers reference to animals in his ethics of compassion. In his master’s thesis he reaearched on the mounted police in Hamburg in the 1960s. In addition to his dissertation, Benjamin is active in several other projects, such as the coronarchive, the Walk&Talk Podcast Series as well as Theoriegeschichte(n) (currently under construction).
